Effective January 1, 2025, Kyle Fawcett has been selected to serve as the next Chief Executive Officer of Silvera for Seniors, succeeding long-time CEO Arlene Adamson. Adamson, who is stepping down for health reasons, will remain involved as a strategic advisor during the transition.

Kyle Fawcett, currently Silvera’s Chief External Relations Officer, will become Silvera’s new Chief Executive Officer on January 1, 2025. Silvera’s executive team: Michael Stuart, Chief Human Resources Officer; Allan Mowbray, Chief Financial Officer; Kyle Fawcett; Olivia Chubey, Chief Service and Operations Officer; Arlene Adamson, current CEO; and Lorne Robertson, Chief Development Officer.

The appointment comes after an extensive search conducted by Silvera’s Board of Directors, aimed at finding a leader to guide Silvera into its next phase of growth.

Fawcett, who currently serves as Silvera’s Chief External Relations Officer, expressed his enthusiasm about stepping into his new role.

“I am incredibly excited to have been selected as the next CEO of Silvera for Seniors,” said Fawcett. “It is a significant responsibility that I humbly accept.”

Reflecting on his three years at Silvera, he praised the commitment of the staff and highlighted the organization’s mission. “Silvera has a rich history of providing housing to seniors in Calgary who need safe and affordable accommodations. Together, we will not only honour but build on this legacy.”

In a message for Silvera’s employees, Fawcett talked about his leadership philosophy, which centers on empowering employees and fostering a unified culture. “Leadership emanates from all areas of the organization. My job as CEO is to engage with all levels, clearly communicate strategic objectives, and ensure every employee understands how their work aligns with Silvera’s values and direction,” he said. He reiterated his commitment to placing both employees and residents at the heart of Silvera’s decision-making processes.

Board selects Fawcett for his passion and commitment

Paul Taylor, Chair of Silvera’s Board, expressed confidence in Fawcett’s ability to lead Silvera through challenges and opportunities. “Kyle joined Silvera in 2021 and has proven his passion for our work and commitment to our growth,” said Taylor. Highlighting Fawcett’s experience in government relations, fund development, and marketing, Taylor noted that Fawcett’s leadership will prioritize strategic focus, operational excellence, and the health and wellness of residents and employees.

“Kyle brings a depth of experience from his previous roles as an Alberta legislator, cabinet minister, and executive leader in the nonprofit and private sectors,” said Taylor. “Under his leadership, we will continue to build a caring and capable culture that enables employees to live their best lives while serving our residents.”

Taylor paid tribute to outgoing CEO Adamson, whose 13-year tenure has significantly advanced Silvera’s mission. “Arlene has been a passionate advocate for seniors, enhancing the lives of countless residents and employees,” Taylor said. “She leaves a legacy of stability and excellence that positions Silvera for continued success.”

Adamson supportive of the transition

Adamson expressed her wholehearted support for Fawcett’s appointment. “Kyle is passionate, thoughtful, and deeply committed to Silvera’s mission,” she said. “He understands the culture, values, and strategic direction of the organization.”

Reflecting on the selection process, Adamson praised the Board’s decision to promote from within. “Having someone like Kyle, who has grown with the organization, step into this role is a testament to Silvera’s success in fostering leadership development,” she said. Adamson emphasized the importance of continuity and collaboration as Silvera adapts to meet the growing demand for seniors’ housing.

“Silvera is in a strong position, with a trusted reputation and quality communities,” Adamson said. “The future is bright, and Kyle has the strengths needed to carve out the next chapter for the organization.”

Silvera looks ahead to 2025

As Calgary faces a rising seniors’ population and increasing costs of living, Fawcett highlighted the urgency of Silvera’s mission. “Our work has never been more important,” he said.
