On July July 25, 2024 we had twenty-four youth volunteers from Youth Central and Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association joined us at Gilchrist Commons for a Christmas in July party.

Christmas in July was created by a summer camp as a way to embrace creativity in a silly way and spark some holiday joy in the summer sun. Our experience yesterday very much embodied the meaning of the sunny holidays. We played a variety of games including Santa’s packages, how many bells, a contest of who could create the ugliest Christmas shirt and then we topped off the afternoon with an ugly Christmas shirt fashion show. We laughed, enjoyed food and left with prizes. Trent the Gilchrist community manager also sang us a few carols.

Although it felt odd at the start to celebrate the holidays in the summer, the afternoon ended with many feeling bright and cheerful as the meaning of the holidays is connection and love. We carry the joy all year round!

Thank you to Youth Volunteers for attending, and being such a big help!
